Exploited Fate “We are excellence”

Exploited Fate (Dante and Nelly)

Exploited Fate (has dropped by and has been talking to our two interviewers (Theodore and Ashley). They will give us a clearer insight of their new glamorous lives as two new fresh artists combined into a group. We have exclusively invited them into our new pad which has been under development for 3 years now.

Ashley: “Hello, we have the excellent Exploited Fate duo here today with us and we have the privilege to be speaking to them today despite their busy schedule.”
Dante: “Thank you for that warm welcome Sarah, we too are humbled to be here”
Theodore: “Enough with the chit chat, let’s get straight down to business. First of all how on earth did you come up with the name Exploited Fate?”
Dante: “Couldn't be an easier question for us. My favorite word is exploited”
Nelly: “My favorite word is Fate; so we decided to bring it together to make ‘Exploited Fate’. I remember we started saying it loads of times and it just seemed right. It fitted.”
Ashley: “Did you ever know you were destined for stardom”
Nelly: “We never knew we would get this far. I mean we wanted to make a duo and get started in making music. We were making T-shirts and we were thinking about what clothes we should we wear. We actually never did the practical thing. We
Never got down to enhancing our voices”
Dante: “After we got all the production things sorted out meaning how would people hear about us. We started to develop our voices so producers and our record label could have faith in us.”
Nelly: “We were relieved to hear that our voices were heard and given the thumbs up. After that shortly we started performing at concerts and started getting paid as we rightly should.”
Ashley: “Alright boys I have been itching to ask my next question. Who is your inspiration, is there anyone who you idolise to get to the place you are?”
Nelly: “Yeah definitely we love Daft Punk, we totally idolize them. They are a huge duo and they have achieved so much! Every time I hear about them or I watch their music videos I just block everything around me and concentrate about them.”
Dante: “Yeah there are some big names up there who I idolize but Daft Punk is the one who I would say motivates me the most to become who I am today.”
Theodore: “Whoa that was deep”
Dante: “I know right”
Ashley: “Alright let’s move onto the next question, what are Exploited Fate listening to right now:
Dante: “Right now I have Lil Wayne on my phone. I also have some Bruno Mars, Pharrell, and Eminem and Bring me the horizon. All of these mainstream artists are right now doing excellent in the music industry. Their families must be so proud”
Dante: “Unlike Theo I listen to more bands such as: Little Comets, Imagine Dragons, Zulu Winter, The black keys and The sunshine underground.”
Dante: “Yeah can I add to that point that in our duo we have lots of diversity, We listen to all genres between us and we try and put a funky beat to our lyrics and hope everyone can get up and dance to our music. That’s Exploited fate aim”
Ashley: “For those who hasn't seen you in a live performance what can they expect from you”
Dante: “Well for those lots who haven’t seen us in concert I can assure you that you can expect lots of energy from us and a really positive vibe.”
Nelly: “We’re not that type of artists who just stand still and just sing. We like to move about and we like to jump about. I guess it just makes us comfortable, makes the stage we are performing feel similar to home”
Ashley: “Okay boys what would you describe your style as. Dante you first please seeing as you’re the older twin.”
Theodore: “Cool and calm. I’m one of those really nice guys who people who want to come up to and have a friendly chat. I love talking to our fans, seeing how they are doing and what they are up to”
Dante: That’s really boring Theo. On the other hand I am more of a ladies man. The majority of fans who I talk to are girls. I mean if you are famous you would have to exploit it. Right?”
Theodore: “Very correct” You guys have already been nominated for different awards for the next VMA’s which take place next Saturday. The awards are best new band and best new artists. How do you feel when you first realized you been nominated for this prestigious award?
Nelly: “Well sometimes I can’t even describe how I feel about this. I’m really proud of both of us and how far we have gotten”
Dante: “I am immensely proud of us. Against some of the world’s most exciting talented young artist. It is an honor and we are rightly humbled”
Ashley: “Well I hope you two win it. Exploited Fate deserves to”
Nelly: “To be honest I don’t think we would win it this year. It is too soon for use, we have only just burst out into the music scene recently. The competition is really strong.”
Theodore: “Okay let’s away from the music scene a bit. Do you two have any obsessions?”
Nelly: “Food. I really love food; I can’t get enough of it. You can’t live without it. The funny thing is people are how do I have a body like mine and still be able to eat vast amounts of food. Well let me tell you guys that working out frequently is the way forward. In depth every single Tuesday I work out. I practically live in the gym on Tuesdays.
Ashley: “Well Dante I guess everyone sitting this room can probably guess what you’re thinking of right now”
Theodore: “Dante?”
Dante: “Girls, girls and girls”

Planning My Artist

My artist/band that is going to be on my front page is called Exploited Fate is an upcoming band that is flourishing inside the music business. They both were twins and was born in Holland to Dutch parents who later moved to the USA to have a better living opportunity for their twins. They were first was seen as songwriters and later progress to singing their songs live at parties. By 17 years old they both were was seen as an official music artist singing with a record label that was keen to release her songs. Exploited Fate are very two strong willed people. They take great pride with their accomplishments and they are extremely modest. If they do break into the 100 Billboard the fame go to their head.

Focus Group

This is my focus group that consist of three I have interviewed. I have asked all the every single person in my focus group various ways upon how they can assist me delivering the a fantastic magazine to the public. From viewing my video you can straight away observe that the genre that I should be promoting is Rap and RnB. David had made a very excellent fact that the two genres are arguably the two most listened and downloaded types of music that teenagers listen to. As a result I have to deliver a great magazine with RnB and Hip Hop as it roots. Craig also made an excellent idea regrading how often my magazine should be released. If the demand is high I should deliver it weekly and maybe possibly charge a high price. If the demand is low and people do not pay enough for it I should release it monthly and not waste resources such as: trees to make the paper. The price, genre and how often my magazine comes out is incredible factors I should consider before releasing it.

Mood Board

The camera shots of these magazines covers are all focusing on the main artists. Every single of the artists are looking directly at the camera giving the camera their full concentration. Most of the camera shots in the magazines are medium shots to show what the characters are doing.

Most of these magazines the artists on here have many flashy, cool and trendy costumes. The Daft Punk magazine especially highlights this as very much of the costumes are flamboyant eg: sparkling helmets, shiny suits. In the other magazine 2 Chainz is wearing two chains which is very slick. Another approach is casual dressing as shown in the Imagine Dragons.

The font styles in this magazine are very easy to acknowledge as they are in bubble writing and bold. Furthermore, they are coloured which makes it stand out from the background. Two of the magazine has special fonts ‘COMPLEX’ ‘SUBSTREAM’. These fonts are fancy to attract viewers and it is no problem for the audience to read what the title says.

The colour schemes of these magazines are very bright and colourful except ‘FREQUENCY.’ This magazine has a dark background and the artist 2 Chainz has a serious expression. The other magazines are spontaneous and flamboyant which will have a positive effect on the audience when looking to buy a magazine.

All of these magazines have puffs to dictate what types of articles are going to be inside the magazine. For example ‘talk style with T.I’. The topic of fashion trends will be inside the magazine. Another example could be ‘Avril Lavigne’ shows that this magazine is also going to be referring to her.

Results Analysis

These are my results analysis, The answers here were given from my classmates.

Title Block Analysis

From the title we can see the genre of music maybe be old rock, the title has a vintage feel to it and it looks quite old because the writing is joined up this gives us the impression that this title block is more what you would find in a 50s newspaper rather than a modern magazine. They have used red which stand out from the red and black giving it a more 3D and popping effect and making it stand out more. The use of the word ‘Rolling’ gives us the impression that it may be rock and ‘roll’ music that is featured in the magazine. From the title block we can guess that the magazine has an older target audience because it has an old font. The way the letter ‘R’ twirls and flicks make it stylish and sophisticated. Using the colour red can symbolise the passion ‘Rolling Stone’ has for music and the passion it has for everything the magazinse contains such as politics and culture. The writing looks like it has been hand drawn, making it seem more artistic giving it a creative feel, this could also reflect the target audience saying that they too are creative and artistic. We can see that this magazine is going to be very informative not just on music but also on world issues.

The design of the title block is big and bold; this could mean that the magazine is ‘bold’ and opinionated. It’s red with a white outline then a black outline making black and white were probably chosen because they are two colours that are complete opposites and make the text very obvious and make it stand out more; eye-catching it makes the magazine seem very confident about what they’re selling. NME stand for ‘new musical express ‘ this is telling us what genre of music is typical of this type of magazine will be ‘new’ music, fresh from up and coming bands it could also mean it’s bringing the public new music constantly as it comes out weekly. The font is very alternative and modern reflecting not only the genre of music it contains but the audience as well. The colour red has connotations with passion this means that this magazine could be intensely passionate about what it’s trying to sell and the bands that are in the magazine. The font is quite simple yet very effective; it seems to be making a confident statement. The font is very big and masculine and this also could reflect the target audience who are predominantly men.

The title block is very bold, and the word ‘Kerrang’ has an exclamation mark giving us the impression that it’s being shouted; this could reflect the type of music that this magazine has to offer maybe the music will be very loud and bold. The word ‘Kerrang’ is an adjective and this could be used to describe sound of the electric guitar that’s used heavily in rock music, this could also used to describe the type of sound that people would make in rock music. The text has got lines through giving us the impression, that it has been smashed up or maybe purposely broken somehow this gives us the impression that someone has smashed a guitar into the title, this is a common thing in the rock music industry the white lines could also simply represent the guitar strings. The text is black and it’s used on a white background this makes the text really stand out because black and white are complete opposites. The black text gives the magazine negative connotations and it’s commonly associated with death, mourning and evil. I think they have been used to give the magazine a dark and feel, and make it very bold so it stand out and is loud just like rock music is. The font is rough around the edges giving us the impression that the letters, giving us the impression, that the music this magazine has is rough as well.

College Magazine Front Cover

This is my college magazine front cover for media. I took a medium shot of a boy (Craig Jackson) who attends my college for the front cover image to present how college students learn and what we wear in our college. Added title, barcode and some articles.

Planning a Music Magazine

Planning a Music Magazine
Please answer the questions below on your magazine idea:

  1. Who is your target audience?

My target audience will be people who love the genre RnB. Moreover, it will be targeted at young people who love music.

  1. What style, genre or time of music is your magazine about or is going to appeal to a range of music tastes?

Even though my music magazine will be ideally targeting RnB lovers, I will additionally like my magazine to talk about Pop and Rock. I want to do this so it can be expanded to different genres and, include further added people from different backgrounds so; they can too relish enjoying the magazine as well.

  1. How often will your magazine come out, weekly, fortnightly, monthly or bi-monthly?

My magazine will be coming out every week. I will select this schedule for in my judgment, more people will be unable to remember about it if I leave the deadline so long for the new issue to come out. Besides, it may possibly increase my profits if my magazine comes out frequently particularly if it’s a big market leader.

  1. How much will your magazine cost?  Consider who your target audience is and also how often your magazine comes out.

The magazine will cost £3.00. This is since my magazine to be glossy, slick and trendy. As well, I want my magazine to be classy and expensive so I can really raise my profits.

  1. Is your magazine going to be glossy like Q Magazine or more like a newspaper like NME?
Optimistically I would like my magazine to be resembled and be polished like Q magazine. I truly indeed admire any front cover of Q magazine because it is really good and I feel inspired that I am going to make one that will hopefully challenge for the potential customers.

Double Page Analyse

NME magazine uses a very simple layout on this double but doesn’t make it boring for the readers. They have used a long shot of the band MUSE who the article is about; it takes up the whole double page and is also used as part of the background for the spread. The lead singer is in the middle and is more dominant than the other members which tell us he is the lead singer. The way they look makes the band come across as relaxed but also serious about their music and what they do. The article is laid out in a column along the right side; it doesn’t cover the faces of the band members so that the direct eye contact from the image makes it more personal.

The text is black on a white background which makes it easy to read; the layout of the columns is very much organised. The headline is on the far left side written horizontally in bold white text so it stands out. There is an introduction hinting to what the article is about, written in white text on a colourful background to catch the readers’ eye. We can tell this double page comes from a rock/punk music magazine because of the band in the image; they are mostly wearing lots of black and white which are colours usually associated with this genre, so people who like this music will be the target audience for the magazine. Also MNE has also used these colours on the double page so there is a house style for the spread.

The font used on the page is mostly the same font but different sizes except for the little introduction part which uses a different font; this makes it stand out and catch the readers’ eye ‘IT BEGAN AS A SKETCH ON A NAPKIN’. NME often do this in their magazines. The quote is white on black in the middle of the article; it stands out and catches the readers’ attention so they read it and want to read the article because it is eye-catching.

Content Page Analysis

Content Page Analysis

The language features on this contents page are very simple. The main two colours are black, red and white. The masthead (NME) is in the traditional colours of the magazine which is red, and the title which states labels the page as the contents page is in white. The majority of the rest of the page is in a black font, including the sell line telling the reader that the section about Muse. A bold font is used for the title so it stands out to the reader and grabs their attention and then a slightly smaller font is used for the titles at the side like 'News', 'Reviews 'Features'. This is so the reader knows were to look to find those particular sections and they can find them quickly. The bold picture is of the Muse playing live and it was probably not especially taken for NME it would just have been taken at one of their concerts. It is placed in the centre of the contents page and this stands out to the reader and they will look and see what the picture is about. At the bottom of the contents page is a section advertising to the reader to subscribe to NME and they will only have to pay £1.49 for it, thus making the reader read NME every week.

I: The contents page of the magazine doesn't give off a particular idea. It doesn't really give any views or beliefs like rock and roll it seems to be more just about the music and the music only. This is expressed by the picture used. It is of the Muse playing live and it's not a picture which had been particularly shot to give off a certain idea. For example in other magazines there might be a picture of someone to show they are a rebel. NME is quite an known independent magazine so it wouldn't have to give off any opinions or beliefs. Its just about the artist and music only.

The audience for NME is mainly males aged 17-24. 70 percent of the audience are males so that is clearly the majority. Most people who read NME have good income jobs which allows them to afford the magazine when it comes out each month.

The main focus of this contents page is to tell the reader what page different sections of the magazine are on. The page also advertises the article about Muse and it advertises the section about subscribing to the magazine.

Cover Page anaylse

From looking at the magazine you can tell it’s to do with music because a band is on the front cover. Also most people will be familiar with the band ‘MUSE’. You can also tell from reading the information that the articles are going to be about ‘drugs, Muse’s tour and other things. These things can give hints regarding what is in the magazine. The target audience for this magazine will be for people who enjoy rock music because of ‘MUSE’s’ genre. Also, teenager (15-25) will be a huge target audience because of the band’s style. Looking at the central image it is a picture of MUSE. Also, their interest will be reading about “MUSE” activity. The overall message that the artist is trying to put across is that it is giving an insight of what they tours are like. Furthermore, they will be most likely giving an insight of their personal life. The band ‘MUSE’ is on the front cover because many people know them and they are popular. The message that this band is giving out to people is that they are giving an insight to their life. Also they are all wearing leather jackets which make them look fashionable. Furthermore, they are all wearing nice trendy shoes which imply that they all are enjoying their life. There is one buzz “Welcome to our new spaceship”. The effect that it has on the reader is that when the audience sees this they can be excited to read about it. Also, they are in front of a red or orange background which mainly suggests they are in control. The fonts are also bold and big and white which attracts the audience.

Contents Page Analysis Questions

Contents Page Analysis Questions
Both of the above magazines use images on the page. The first magazine (left) took at a two shot image and then the writing is displayed on the side of the magazine. You can also see most of the image on the magazine. The right magazine has several different images on the page. There are all small sizes so they can all have the respectable arrangement on the page. One of the pictures is overlapping the other and some of the text of the content page is overlapping the picture. However despite of all of this the whole page still looks neat.

The left magazine had made me think that the magazine is retro style and is aiming at a specific audience which is older people (30+). You could maybe predict this by maybe looking at the costumes they both wear. Also artist like 'Bob Dylan' gives a huge hint that the magazine is probably going to be more appropriate for the older generation. Another, factor is that the whole page is in black and white which adds to the whole olden, retro and dated vibe that is being presented. Looking at the left magazine you can tell the tone is upbeat because the people on the page are smiling. Furthermore, there are colours on the magazines which give a whole glossy tone and lights up the page. The environment around the people looks enjoyable e.g. the girl and the microphone and the smiling girl standing with face paint on her face.

Which colours and fonts are used? Does this support the style of the front cover?

The left magazine uses black and white images on the front page which contributes into the retro style. The font of this magazine is also normal and not fancy trying to keep the font legible and uncomplicated. The right magazine has very colourful images and has a normal font.

How is the information organised so that it is accessible to the audience?
On the left magazine the information are all on the right hand side which the people can easily read. Also there are numbers on the page so the reader knows what page to go to find information. The right magazine there is a lot of information to be seen. It is on the right and bottoms sides. Again there are numbers designated to the page. Also only the right magazine has a logo on it. This will be recognisable to people and will be a huge tactical move if people decide to purchase the magazine.

Analysing music magazines

Analysing music magazines
This is a music magazine. From looking at the front cover you can tell that they are to be talking about the artist Miguel. This is because he is the central image and he is dominating that page. Also the issues are going to be about Miguel's opinion on sex, drugs and RnB. Furthermore, its going to be about Vibe's opinion on the 50 greatest album. Kendrick Lamar is also going to be a topic inside. At the top the headline is a skyliner which would be a debate inside the magazine.
In my opinion the target audience for this magazine is going to be mainly people who love music. These can young or older people. Moreover girls will be hugely attractive to this because of the attention the artist Miguel gets. In addition, other music artist will be an audience because they could maybe be paying closer attention to competition or looking who they might want to collaborate with. All of their interest will be looking at the last fashion trends and Miguel. Other things they might want to read about is politics and movies.
Looking at the central image, you can Miguel is a outgoing figure because of his stance. Also you can might argue we might get a insight about him but not a lot because he is wearing shades. This covers his eyes and he stating that he is cool and slick. His fingers are also gestured to a rock and roll stance. He is also wearing a lot of jewellery and accessories which suggest he is very wealthy as he can afford all of it. Lastly he is wearing a blazer to maybe project he likes to dress smart but whilst coming across smooth. That is his vibe.
The title of the magazine is all in block letters and in red. You can also tell from the word "Vibe that this is going to be an energetic magazine. Furthermore, it is going to be about artist's personality's and how they are facing the camera and without. Vibe to most people is a cool word so people who like the name will be most likely to purchase this.

Introduction To My Blog

Introduction To My Blog Hello my name is Sufian and I am presently studying Media studies as an A-level. The reason for picking media studies is because I love music and film. My ambitions and targets in this coursework are to create a music magazine (front cover, contents page and a double page article.
